Dr. Adrian L. Brown, President, has over 16 years of planning and community development experience, including several years in municipal government. As a consultant, Dr. Brown has focused on grants preparation, grants administration, comprehensive and strategic planning, comprehensive planning, zoning ordinance regulations, land use regulations, entertainment, tourist, and historical district planning, affordable housing strategies, and development impact analysis.
Biography
Dr. Adrian L. Brown was born the 3rd child to the late Mr. Andrew Brown, former principal of Indianola Gentry High School and Mrs. Leatha Brown of Indianola, retired Indianola Jr. High School teacher.

Dr. Adrian L. Brown was educated in the Indianola Public School District. Dr. Adrian L. Brown is a 1995 graduate of Indianola Gentry High School where he completed his high school education. Dr. Adrian L. Brown has also obtained an Associate of Arts Degree from Mississippi Delta Community College (1997), Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Social Science from Delta State University (1999), and a Master’s of Science Degree in Community Development (2000) from Delta State University. Dr. Adrian L. Brown obtained a Ph.D. in Urban & Regional Planning with a specialization in Community Development and Housing from Jackson State University December (2013).
Dr. Adrian L. Brown is a 2011 graduate of the Mississippi Economic Council’s Leadership Mississippi. Dr. Adrian L. Brown was initiated into the Upsilon Delta Delta Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Spring of 1998. Dr. Adrian L. Brown is a International Life Member #6158, 7th District Life Member #218, and State of Mississippi Life Member #8 of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. In the past, Dr. Adrian L. Brown served as Vice Basilesus of the Beta Rho Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Presently, Dr. Adrian L. Brown serves as Chaplain for the Beta Rho Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Along with Dr. Adrian L. Brown’s solid education background, he has a number of practical experiences also. Dr. Adrian L. Brown has participated in Class III of the Delta Emerging Leaders Program sponsored by Delta State University, and Class I of the Mid South Delta Leaders Program sponsored by Delta State University, Arkansas State University, and Grambling State University. Dr. Adrian L. Brown has participated in several International Community Development Study Tours held in Bangkok, Thailand, Tokyo, Japan, London, England, and Ghana, West Africa.
Dr. Adrian L. Brown’s stateside experience includes serving as Grants Administrator for the South Delta Planning and Development District headquartered in Greenville, Mississippi from 2001 to 2004. This District is 1 of 10 Planning and Development Districts located throughout the state of Mississippi encompassing the counties of Washington, Bolivar, Sunflower, Humphreys, Sharkey and Issaquena. Dr. Adrian L. Brown completed many housing, community development, and economic development projects throughout the entire 6 county district.
Dr. Adrian L. Brown has ties with Community Service Organizations and Boards such as the following: The American Planning Association, The Association for Community Organization and Social Administration, The Inter-University Consortium for International Social Development, The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., The Community Development Society, The Rural Sociological Society, The Boys and Girls Club, The Indianola Chamber of Commerce, The Mississippi Municipal League, The Mississippi Association of Supervisors, and the City of Indianola Planning Commission.
In May of 2014, Dr. Adrian L. Brown was selected as 1 of 125 people nationwide as a WK Kellogg Foundation Fellow. Dr. Adrian L. Brown also serves as Chairman of the Sunflower County Consolidated School District P-16 Council. To add, Dr. Adrian L. Brown serves as Chairman of the Mississippi Valley State University College of Business Advisory Council.

Brown & Associates, Inc. is certified by the Mississippi Development Authority as a “Minority Business Enterprise.” The Minority and Small Business Development Division (MSBDD) of the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) offers a Minority and Women-Owned Business Certification, designed to identify minority and women-owned businesses capable of working with public entities and private sector firms.
To qualify, a business must be socially and economically disadvantaged, for-profit and performing a useful function. The business also must be at least 51-percent controlled by one or more female owners, or by an African-American, Hispanic, Asian-American or American Indian owner. In addition, the owner must live in Mississippi and be a permanent resident of the United States. MDA’s minority business certification process, which is free to applicants, includes a site visit. Business owners must submit documents detailing net worth, work experience, three years of tax returns, a social and economic disadvantage statement, a list of equipment owned or leased, balance sheets and other documents.
